Matthew R. Fonder took over as the Tax Director in October, 2011. Prior to accepting his current position with the Alaska Department of Revenue, Mr. Fonder worked with the South Dakota Department of Revenue for the last seven years.

Mr. Fonder holds a B.A. degree in Sociology, with double minors in Economics and Spanish from South Dakota State University. Mr. Fonder also holds a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of South Dakota School of Law. His career in state government began immediately after law school, and has continued on since that time.

He and his wife Cara have one daughter, and reside in the Anchorage area.
